Monthly Meeting— Thursday, March 10, 2016  7 p.m.

Our guest speaker for this meeting will be Councilman Jackie J. Berthelot who 

will take us down memory lane when he reminisces about his involvement at St. 

Joseph Church’s CYO and Altar Servers. After his presentation, he will give us 

a quick update on the new Centennial Park that is being constructed in his Dis-

Garland Gaspard and Paul Coles will be cooking a Jambalaya. A nice salad and 

vegetable will be served. French bread and dessert will be included.


2016 Gretna Historical Society Spring Tour of Homes

The GHS Spring Tour of Homes will be held on Sunday, April 17 from 1 to 5 p.m. The tour will feature seven beautiful homes, almost all are of the shotgun style. Many were blighted and abandoned, ready for demolition, instead have been saved and renovated. 

The now completed Heritage House, on last year’s tour in a “before” stage will offer interesting exhibits 

In celebration of its 150th Anniversary, Regular Baptist Church will open to the public for the first time ever its History Museum. The museum is housed in the church’s Fellowship Center, originally a shot Also on the tour is the GHS Museum Complex which includes the White House, Gretna Green Black-smith Shop, Kitty Strehle House and the Louisiana State Fire Museum.

The German-American Cultural Center, with its interesting museum exhibits that trace the lives of Ger-man immigrants will be on the tour. The tour starts at the GHS Museum Complex at 209 Lafayette St. where tickets can be purchased. For more information about the tour, call Stephanie Dieterich, tour chairperson at 504.366.7026.
